SAINT MARY MAGDALENE

The Bozzetto, or small sculpture, of Mary Magdalene is a masterful example of Baroque woodcarving. According to the New Testament, she was one of the women who accompanied Jesus of Nazareth, especially at the end of his life. In the carving she is depicted as mourning, holding a skull in her hands.
