Milada Marešová's brilliant and painterly mature composition Girl in Yellow dress comes from the author's family. The visually arresting image creates a tension that evokes the optically dominant yellow awakening the senses and the dreamy introspective expression of the portraiture that contrasts with expectation. The gesture of white-gloved hands protecting a single rose bud reveals a fragile beauty that will undoubtedly not escape a single observer, but it is not certain what the portrait herself thinks about it. The painting belongs to the period after the exhibition in the prestigious Aventine Mansard in Prague, when Milada Marešová achieved public recognition. She was undoubtedly influenced by her stay in Paris, where she attended František Kupka's lectures and subsequently captured the atmosphere of the big city in various forms, looked for the presence of people, the subway, parks, cafes and showed a deep painterly sense of the human psyche. Her paintings strongly transcended their time with their social aspect. More than a critique of social conditions, they mainly depict humanity, the human destiny, and the woman often finds herself at the center of the composition, where she invites the viewer to interact with her eyes.
