Vincenc Vingler, a sculptor, ceramist and designer who represented Czechoslovakia at international exhibitions many times and became famous for his exterior sculptures for the Prague Zoo, has maintained a partial distance from the prevailing artistic trends throughout his life. The departure from traditional figurative sculpture perfectly describes the register of his work, which is recognizable by its minimalism, through which he has reached the very threshold of abstract expression. Interested in the psychology of animals, their movements and characteristic gestures, he excelled in his sense of material and fine workmanship, which enabled him to express the very soul of the animal, as evidenced by the artist's famous sculpture, The Crow. "The artist has here reached out to our most commonplace bird, and has produced an exquisite sculpture of firm tawr and rich expression: all the cleverness of the crow and its audacity are there." The dimension given is without the plinth.
