A detailed portrait in an impressive color combination depicting Russian Admiral Pavel Vasilievich Chichagov in opulent ceremonial attire with insignia of his office and decorations. Chichagov became a member of the closest retinue of the later Tsar Alexander I. From December 1802 until 1811 he was Minister of the Navy of the Russian Empire. In 1807 he became an admiral. In the war of 1812, after Kutuzov, he took command of the Moldovan army and with this he tried to block the way to the retreating Grand Army.
