Jiří Kolář (1914 - 2002) BLACK GOLD

Jiří Kolář is highly valued not only for his artistic work, but also for his literary work. He is the author of many poetry collections and two plays. Experiments with the interweaving of several levels of art in one work led him to create a kind of photographic diary, from which collages gradually developed. In them he freed himself from language as a binding means and gave his "poems" a new dimension. In the work Black Gold, he focuses on the issue of the influence of fossil fuels on world politics and the economy - they get to the center of the picture through a vintage oiler hidden under a tangle of fragments of oriental texts.
