From the expert assessment by Tomáš Pilař: “The presented viola has a label adhered to the inside: ‘Carolus Joseph Dvořák / Fecit Pragae 1943.’ There is a branded manufacturer’s mark above the label: ‘K.DVOŘÁK – PRAGUE.’ The instrument is an original by the Prague master violinmaker Karel Josef Dvořák. A work of fine artisanship in all respects, the viola is remarkable for its beautiful inlaid purfling and cleanly carved F-holes. Flatsawn maple, with exquisitely executed spruce featuring very fine annual rings for the viola top. Treated with an adequate layer of high-quality oil-based varnish.”
