Pencil drawing and watercolor on paper. 21 × 16 cm (dimensions in frame). Signed below: “pro Lili Vánoce 1949-50 J. Šíma”. The sensitive line-and-wash drawing “Landscape” is a postwar work by Šíma, foreshadowing the twilight of the artist's career. It stands out especially for its interesting structuring, with crisscrossing, penetrating fields and the slight indication of a horizon in the background. Several trees in the picture have symbolic meaning for the artist, like lines connecting the heavens and earth. This beautiful, imaginative work is also impressive for its masterful use of light and composition, in which Šíma expressed the lightness of the atmosphere in the upper section of the picture and the heavy burden of the earth in the lower section. The drawing is housed in the original wooden frame and stand.
