First published in 1836, Karel Hynek Mácha's epic poem May is often considered a masterpiece of Czech literary Romanticism. In it, Mácha fully departs from the Czech Revivalist program of the first half of the 19th century, approaching the poem as the personal confession of a ragged romantic wrought with insecurity and questions about the meaning of life.
