This still life with four apples and a pear is one of the few works created in 1945. According to Špála's own list of works, which he kept from 1926 until the end of his life, it is known that he made only 17 small paintings that year - all still lifes with fruit, and several small watercolors. The brushwork is typical, with clear, primarily diagonal strokes made with a flat brush, with red and blue gradations forming the background. The shape of the fruit is built using fields with a color scale expanded to include green and bright yellow. Watercolor on paper, signed and dated "V. Špála 17/4 45" on bottom right. Label from the Prague Salon of Fine Art on back.
