Originally from Moravia, Franz Barwig trained as a carver before attending and later teaching at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. He was an important Secessionist sculptor, a member of Hagenbund and the Vienna Secession. This sculpture represents Barwig’s Secessionist expression, which he primarily created while he lived and worked in Vienna. Marble, unmarked.
