Jiří Bradáček is part of a generation of sculptors from the latter half of the 20th century whose creative freedom was severely limited due to the political environment. Before the war he started studying at the State School of Ceramics in Prague; he later continued his studies under Karel Dvořák at the School of Applied Arts and under Karel Pokorný the Academy. He founded the northern Bohemian art group Krok 57. In 58 he exhibited his sculptures at the World Expo in Brussels. His creative expression accents volume and the interplay between light and shadow. A plaster version of Reclining Figure was exhibited at the artist's collected exhibition in Most in 2004 and published in the exhibition catalogue. Bronze, signed and dated "Bradáček 58" on back.
