The rosary's unusual design consists of four decades and one segment with fifteen stones; otherwise it respects the order of the prayers for which a rosary is used. The gold medallion marked with the year 1854 bears a profile portrait of Pope Pius IX, who held office in 1848-1878. The golden bead caps and flat-necked beads are inspired by Romanesque jewelry. The golden cross, medallion, Madonna carved in stone, and gold inlay all correspond to the stylistic tendencies of the 19th century.
