From the opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Piepenhagen was gifted with an extraordinary talent and soon developed his own unmistakable landscape expression, first in the spirit of sentimental pre-romanticism, later in the sign of peak romanticism. The presented Road in the Mountains during a storm and rain, an intimate setting of Piepenhagen's dreamy romanticism, is created with the help of diffused light with a soft brushwork, it bears all the characteristic features of Piepenhagen's landscape work in the motif, composition and color scale used."
