Ota Janeček's representative loose work comes from the artist's early period and is an example of his characteristic manuscript and the subject matter of female nudes, which began to emerge and vary at this time. Janeček was awarded several times in the competition for the most beautiful Czechoslovak book of the year. His interest was mainly focused on the depiction of nature; his delicate stylization of flowers, birds, butterflies, and blades of grass is reminiscent of the masters of Japanese hanging paintings in its fragility, and in contrast, his precise line drawing, trained in the school of cubism, is well suited to express the gentle strokes of the female body.
