Josef Jíra's landscapes are landscapes of the inner world in the spirit of expressionism released from the grip of simple descriptiveness. Edvard Munch was his great model. Josef Jíra's paintings are a testimony of mood, experiences and reflections on the world and memories. The unfussy and unpredictable depiction of the felt landscape contrasts with the rather detailed documentary depiction of the landscape on the reverse side of the painting. It speaks of Josef Jira's high sensitivity and at the same time his intention to present the landscape in ingenious artistic abbreviations with a strong emotional effect.
