Josef Istler (1919 - 2000) OBJECT II

Josef Istler found his own painting language, where he used various symbols and imaginative groupings of elements to create drama. At the same time, he was not afraid to outline the themes of the horrors of war and the gravity of human destiny. He moved from proven themes and contextual elements to abstraction. Josef Istler was significantly influenced by the meeting with Toyen and K. Teige and was a founding member of the Ra Group.
