Květa Válová (1922 - 1998) FRIENDS

The work Friends belongs together with a series of motivically related etchings with the central theme of man in the context of the social environment. Human characters intermingle, seek proximity and share. The drama of human existence gradually transforms from struggle to transformation and harmony. Květa Válová and her sister Jitka have become one soul with two bodies in their work. Both studied at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague and in 1954 became members of the Trasa group, with whom they exhibited together. The intertwining of their work forms a coherent whole, bringing a compelling statement about the times and intimate themes with an appeal to human social feeling.
