Jan Bočan graduated in 1962 from the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he returned in 1990 as head of the studio after being appointed professor. His most famous projects include the Intercontinental Hotel in Prague and the Czechoslovak embassies in London, Stockholm and Brazil. The offered pair of armchairs made of bent slats with walnut veneer were designed by Jan Bočan for the furnishings of the truly iconic building of the already mentioned Czechoslovak Embassy in Stockholm, in which, in addition to Jan Bočan, architects Zdeněk Rothbauer and Jan Šrámek participated, and many other leading Czech artists collaborated on the detailed interior decoration (Libenský, Brychtová, Demartini, Cígler, Kolíbal). Currently, the building, which has been listed as a Swedish cultural monument, is not used by Czech diplomacy, as it was purchased in the late 1990s by a private owner. Good preserved condition.
