Helena Giras Kozáková was born and grew up in Prague and moved to the UK in the 1970s. In London, where she settled, she studied at the Camberwell School of Art and Design, specialising in 3D and ceramics. In addition to teaching, she has been intensively involved in her own artistic work all her life. Her forms are influenced by Cubism from both paintings and architecture. She uses a variety of glazes, firing methods and in recent years has been largely inspired by and uses the randomness of Japanese medieval Raku, which involves the dramatic use of fire and water. She has exhibited widely in Europe, mostly in London and the Czech Republic.
