Josef Holub was a Czech painter - landscape and photographer, a pupil of Julius Mařák and an honorary citizen of the town of Kralup nad Vltavou. These are mainly representatives of Czech plein air realism, which together with Fr. Kavan and B. Dvořák faithfully follows the legacy of J. Mařák and Ant. Chittussi. K. B. Mádl writes in Volné směry (Free Directions), 1897: "Holub shows the same school, the same view as Kaván. Even in his works there is an unlimited respect for nature and both have something so related in the vision that they could be brothers."
