Francesco Furini (1600 - 1646) (follower) PENITENT MARY

Francesco Furini practiced painting in Florence under Cristofano Allori and had good contacts at the Medici court. He excelled in portraying female heroines and saints, to whom he gave the appearance of melancholy contemplation. It was the overall emotional touch and masterfully painted sfumato that attracted much attention to his work and the followers who learned to paint according to his works.
