Josef Drahoňovský (1877 - 1938) PAPERWEIGHT WITH APOLLO

Glass paperweight cut into the shape of an octagon 3 cm thick with an intaglio of the god Apollo. He once said of the glyptic: "Stone carving is actually sculpture in miniature. Knowledge of modeling, drawing, knowledge of the laws of perfect relief, harmony of graded surfaces, lights, all these form the basic values of good engraving in stone and glass." From 1918 he devoted himself to cutting glass and gems with great intensity, and the glyptics completely engulfed him.
