ICON - MARY OF KAZAN AND BABY JESUS

The Madonna of Kazan, the protector of the city, is one of the classic Orthodox motifs. According to legend, a similar icon acquired from Constantinople was long lost in the 13th century and miraculously appeared 140 years later. Very important cathedrals are dedicated to this Madonna in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Mary and Jesus are painted realistically in warm colors, the silver montage bears traces of gilding, a border with repoussé leafy patterns, inscriptions in enamel, a halo and corner panels made using the cloisonné technique. Hallmark of manufacturer "IF" and 84 zolotnik silver.
