The motif of boats swaying on the waves at high tide or resting on the wet sandy coast at low tide is a frequent subject in Jan Zrzavý’s work. He first visited Brittany in 1925 and returned regularly until 1938.
His favorite places he depicted in his work were the port of Camaret, Île de Sein, and the old town of Locronan. He was captivated by the rocky shore of Brittany, where the dunes battered by the Gwalarn winds meet the steep cliffs plunging to the ocean.
