Jan Štursa (1880 - 1925) PUBERTY

This statue a masterpiece from Štursa’s initial lyrical period. The figurativeness of his curves from this period give rise to a youthful figure in full bloom and all her bare beauty. Her head slightly tilted, the young woman smiles, curls falling on her shoulders, every curve extraordinarily smooth. Jan Štursa initially attended the sculpture and stonemasonry school in Hořice, but in 1899 enrolled at the Academy of Art in Prague. His early work is marked by elements of Art Nouveau symbolism
