This springtime landscape with an apple orchard in bloom is an authentic work painted by Josef Ullmann in 1912. The fresh, lyrically impressive painting based on classical principles of composition is executed in plein air Impressionist style. Important Czech landscape artist Josef Ullmann initially studied in Munich, but later became a student of professors Pirner and Marák at the Academy in Prague. He was a member of the Mánes Union of Fine Artists. He presented large landscape paintings at his first exhibitions at the Rudolfinum, but later he showed smaller landscapes and then primarily focused on depicting the mood and natural atmosphere. In around 1910 he permanently devoted himself to pure Impressionism, strongly accenting yellow, red, white, blue and other pure colors to achieve expressively compelling results, especially in winter and summer themes.
