These two oil paintings from Josef Vyleťal's late naïve period seem to glow with the artist's enchantment with France. Following a period of dogmatism, this trend could also be found in the work of numerous other artists. Vyleťal's transition to art associated with modern means of expression and Czech and international modernist traditions, especially French modern art, foreshadowed the advent of abstract lines in Czech art. Forming a counterbalance to this were lines influenced by Surrealism, the style that Vyleťal's later, more well-known work followed.
