One of the artist's early works - painted shortly after studying with Vilém Nowak at the Prague Academy. Characteristic of this period are the striking yellows and color contrast. The narrow horizontal format is also typical, and will be seen again in the Měsíce cycle from the 1950s. Oil on canvas, signed and dated bottom right: Karel Souček 40.
