Maxim Kopf, a German who lived in Prague since he was six and received Czechoslovak citizenship, was one of the most distinguished personalities of the Prague fine arts scene. At the Academy, his teachers included Vlaho Bukovac and Karel Krattner. In 1927, he was one of the founding members of the artistic society Prager Secession. The painting, which captures a mountainous landscape with palm trees, belongs to the cycle of landscape paintings the author produced during his second stay in Tahiti in 1934. Expert assessment by Prof. PhDr. Tomáš Vlček, CSc. Oil on canvas, unsigned, marked with a pencil note on the frame.
