"Solitude is one of Diviš's most important works on canvas and the discovery of another version, actually dated a year earlier than the better-known version in the Polabský Museum in Poděbrady, was certainly a major find. The painting was made in New York in 1945, as confirmed by Diviš's standard inscription on the back side of the canvas. This painting depicts an indoor scene with a reclining female nude, which definitely shows a close link to Diviš's pre-war Parisian works on the same theme... This painting came to light only after many years; it did not appear in exhibitions after the painter's death, but given the catalog information appears to have been exhibited at the first Diviš exhibition after he returned from America, in the Vilímek gallery from January 30 - February 22, 1948."
