The marble sculptural group Neptune was classified by the Italian art historian Alessandro Delpriori, Ph.D., as the work of the eminent sculptor Girolamo Campagna. Its genesis could most probably be dated to the years when the sculptor was working on the decoration of the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua or to a time immediately afterwards. Based on the theme and form of the work, it may be assumed that the sculptural group was part of a bigger unit, probably a fountain. Assessment by PhD. Alessandro Delpriori, Universita di Firenze.
