First edition of a valuable work about the history of the crusades and the Ottoman Empire until the battle of Lepanto in 1571. Only the first part out of two in total survived. Original binding with gilded spine decorations and red edges. Leiden, Jean Luzac, 1747. With copper engraved portraits of Maria Theresa and the author, who was her advisor; also two folding maps of Cyprus, the Holy Land and a plan of the city of Acre, which was the last city the crusaders would hold in the Holy Land.
