From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Landscape with a Rock is an undeniable and very beautiful work by the painter August Bedřich Piepenhagen, although unsigned, it bears all the typical features of his personal work. The view of mountain formations, rocks and boulders and the path leading past them, along which a lone pilgrim is walking towards the horizon, was a frequent motif of Piepenhagen's, paraphrased many times in his work. He drew inspiration for the subject primarily from his pattern books. These stencils, containing small variations of natural motifs with dimensions ranging from 3 to 20 centimetres, are Piepenhagen's speciality in our and European painting."
