Ernst Willers (1802 - 1880) FROM THE VICINITY OF ROME

Ernst Willers was a landscape painter and trained in Düsseldorf under Ludwig Pose and in Dresden under Johann Christian Clausen Dahl. From 1835 to 1863 he studied in Rome. During this time he created a series of atmospheric romantic landscapes from the vicinity of Rome, where shepherds herding sheep move in an idealised landscape bathed in evening light.
