Landscape with poplars is an original, extremely typical, melodically sensitive landscape painting by Václav Špála. In search of a striking and immediately effective expression, Špála did not hesitate to apply the principles of post-cubist shape deformation and reduce color to two or three contrasting tones, without denying his basic relationship to natural reality.
