The harlequin figurine with a lute and a rose in an elegant black and white design is the work of sculptor, ceramist and painter Hubert Kovařík, who belonged to a strong generation of young artists trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna under the leading creators of Viennese Art Nouveau and Modernism. He co-founded a ceramic workshop in Kunštát known for his Kunštát ceramics. From 1932 he devoted himself exclusively to painting.
