Milada Marešová's work echoes serious tones, which are based on sensitivity to social injustice and interest in people on the margins of society, especially during the economic crisis of the 1930s. Scenes from the orphanage also come from the same period. The gloomy environment of the Court with barred windows is all the more impressive because it foreshadows the years of suffering that Milada Marešová spent in prison. Marešová was primarily an interwar painter, in 1940 she was arrested by the Gestapo for her work during the war period and for participating in the magazine V boj. She recorded strongly emotional portraits of fellow prisoners in a women's prison.
