Surrealist Landscape reflects the fine brushwork of Jitka Válová and her sense for vertical composition. Worlds above and below intermingle in a modest color range, growing through a light central point surrounded by deep dark tones. The meditative subject reflects the artist’s work, where the themes of emotion, existentialism and experience are all common denominators. Jitka and her sister Květa, her twin and inseparable twin in her work and life, studied painting at Emil Filla’s studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. They never followed modern trends, and their work is loosely classified as part of the New Figuration movement. Both became members of the Trasa art group, which was founded by students of the monumental painting studio. A gift from the artist to Oldřich Pernica (art photographer).
