A “SOMNO” NIGHTSTAND FROM THE BIEDERMEIER PERIOD

A cylindrical wooden nightstand on a square base with a wooden tabletop; semicircular door with two hinges and a brass amphora-shaped key shield open to reveal two shelves. The “Somno” style nightstand first appeared in the early 19th century. In France the tabletop was usually marble, but wooden tops appeared in Austria and Bohemia during the Biedermeier period.
