Oscar M. Domínguez (1906 - 1957) WOMAN

A miniature Surrealist window framed in brass offers a simplified and entirely deconstructed female nude in full, black contours, highlighted with white and vivid colors. The miniature bears signs of Domínguez’s style of portraying the woman’s body in his surrealist vision. In 1933 Domínguez participated in a Surrealist exhibition in Copenhagen, where he was credited with discovering Automatic Painting – a technique in which the artist paints directly from their subconscious, without thoughts taken from the surrounding world. This technique became absolutely essential for the Surrealist movement.
