About us

Arthouse Hejtmánek is a renowned family-owned gallery and auction house located in a 17th-century villa in Prague’s scenic Bubeneč district. In 2012 we started to primarily focus on buying, selling and assessing works of art, and since then we have earned a place among the top three auction houses in the Czech Republic. Our record-breaking lots include the Mikuláš Medek painting Action I (Egg), which realized the highest price ever paid for a Czech postwar painting at CZK 57 million, and Oskar Kokoschka’s painting Prague, which fetched CZK 42 million at auction. In addition to visual art, we are also a leading seller of antiques and design pieces. We currently hold two auctions per year: a Garden Auction and Evening Auction. The auctions are prepared with exceptional attention to detail and professionalism and are held at our gallery, which allows us to present the works in a fresh and original manner.

In the course of our gallery and collection work we discover precious works of art, provide them with conservation care, restore them, and breathe new life into them. We also focus our attention on supporting lesser-known artists and part of the gallery’s work is reserved for them. Featured artists have included sculptors Jaroslav Horejc and Milan Beránek and painter Jaroslav Veris.

Although we are an auction house first and foremost, our range of services and activities is quite broad. Let’s learn more about them.

Auction House

Arthouse Hejtmánek entered the market as a family-owned business in 2012, but for many years before that we closely followed the art market and auction sales in and outside the Czech Republic. In addition to our commercial interest, it was our own passion for collecting and fondness for art, antiques and design that led us down this path. To put it simply, collecting is in our blood, and our family has been active collectors for several generations now. As a result, we can offer a personal approach and excellent service to our customers, most of whom are happy to repeatedly return. Currently we hold two larger auctions per year, but at our gallery you can purchase and sell artworks outside of auction.

Exhibitions

Besides commercial activities, Arthouse Hejtmánek also organizes and holds public exhibitions. We feel that private subjects on the art market have a duty to create a sort of counterbalance to state-owned galleries and institutions. Rather than following the mainstream, we devote ourselves to discoveries. We organize exhibitions of excellent artists who, for various reasons, are lesser known or have fallen into oblivion.

Arthouse Hejtmánek is one of few auction houses in the Czech Republic that focuses not only on the “classic” range of art, but also offers fascinating, valuable arts & crafts and design objects. Our site, steeped with the spirit of art and a reverence for all that is beautiful, is also a sales gallery.

The gallery services we provide for Czech and foreign collectors include consultations and expert assessments, art conservation and restoration. Our detailed focus on the art market enables us to provide high-quality consulting in establishing and maintaining private collections, considering their investment potential as well as their artistic, aesthetic and historic value.
