Josef Liesler (1912 - 2005) PORTRAIT

Author's print by Josef Liesler, a graduate of the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, in the field of drawing with professors Cyril Bouda, Oldřich Blažíček and Josef Sejpek. Between 1938 and 1941 he worked as a member of the art group Sedm in October. Josef Liesler was very talented for improvisation and his artistic abilities reached very balanced qualities. He worked in the fields of painting, free and applied graphics, stamp making, posters, illustrations and monumental painting, mosaics and sgraffito. He called his work a "fantastic reality". Throughout his work, there is a strong inspiration from surrealism. He combined fantastic ideas with memories, the current situation with historical memory.
