The source of inspiration for Zdeněk Beran was poetry (Rimbaud, Baudelair, Lautrémont) and the literature of authors such as Kafka, Dostoevsky, Camus, Joyce or the absurd texts of Samuel Beckett. He belonged to the group Confrontation, which in 1960 created a Czech analogy to the European informal. In the first half of the 1960s, Beran dealt with the embodiment of the principle of destruction and construction. He disturbed the paintings created in low reliefs of sculpturally processed non-colored materials with gestural interventions.
