Jan Bočan graduated in 1962 from the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he returned in 1990 as head of the studio after being appointed professor. His most famous projects include the Intercontinental Hotel in Prague and the Czechoslovak embassies in London, Stockholm and Brazil. The offered set of six chairs made of bent slats with walnut veneer was designed by Jan Bočan for the furnishings of the truly iconic building of the Czechoslovak Embassy in Stockholm, in which the architects Zdeněk Rothbauer and Jan Šrámek, in addition to Jan Bočan, and many other leading Czech artists collaborated on the detailed interior decoration (Libenský, Brychtová, Demartini, Cígler, Kolíbal). Currently, the building, which has been listed as a Swedish cultural monument, is not used by Czech diplomacy, as it was purchased in the late 1990s by a private owner. Original preserved condition.
