Josef Istler (1919 - 2000) SWAMPS

Bažina's informel based composition belongs to a cycle from the mid-1940s, which arose in collaboration with the Ra group, which brought together Czech surrealists. Josef Istler found his own painting language where he used various symbols and imaginative grouping of elements to create drama. At the same time, he was not afraid to outline the themes of the horrors of war and the weight of human destiny. From tried and tested themes and concrete elements, he moved towards abstraction.
