Painter and sculptor František Kyncl is considered one of the leading constructivists. He studied at the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Prague and at the Academy of Arts and Crafts. In 1968 he emigrated to Germany and settled permanently in Düsseldorf. For some time he studied at the local Academy of Arts, where he later worked as a teacher himself. He exhibited extensively, especially abroad. In his work, he was concerned with intellectually racy geometric formations, often based on line work, which he called Monostructures. The painting on offer from 1992 builds on these monostructures, mostly in the sense of repeating a single motif, but unlike his earlier works it shows a leaning towards painterly execution, the individualization of each element and a departure from rigorous rationality in favor of a more organic approach. The main visual effect here is the sharp light coming from the left side, which sets the whole system in motion.
