Otakar Nejedlý went through a thorough artistic genesis, which included private studies with Ferdinand Engelmüllerr, friendship with Antonín Slavíček, who alienated his artistic style, as well as many trips that Otakar Nejedlý made. In addition to his trip to Ceylon and the former battlefields of the First World War, he was also enchanted by the southern landscapes near the Mediterranean Sea. He captured their ruggedness, colours and light in many variations. The captured landscape of Corsica, with its piercing azure sea and light flashing through the few clouds onto the plaster of the houses, is impressively framed by the lush vegetation of the surrounding hilly landscape. The starkly contrasting situation lends something emotive to the work and reveals the artist's extraordinary sensitivity.
