An established classic from Iranian Kurdistan, a small hand-knotted wool carpet on cotton warp, known among connoisseurs as Senne (the old name of the present-day Iranian city of Sanandaj, the centre of the province of "Kordestan"). The all-over composition of the 'herati' is one of the most famous designs of Persian carpets and consists of jagged leaves around a diamond-shaped diamond medallion with a rosette - according to various views these twisted leaves symbolize fish around a pond ('diamond'), hence the Persian name of the design 'fish by the lake', often shortened to just 'mahi' (or 'fish'). Very fine knotting of small knots and quality wool, with a popular and traditional formalised design, universally suitable for all interiors.
