GOTHIC MADONNA

The delicately rendered face of the Virgin Mary, full of liveliness and nobility, is flanked by a contrasting detailed carving of wavy hair. The Madonna stands on a crescent moon, with the Child Jesus in her left hand. The Madonna is wearing a typical crown on her head, she is without a veil, she is dressed in a dark blue dress with golden red drapery. Jesus is holding an apple - an attribute of sovereign power. The legacy of the French Gothic is manifested here in the dynamic play of light and shadow in the folds of the garment. The sculpture is in very good condition, the original polychrome is preserved.
