Josef Navrátil (1798 - 1865) CHATEAU IN A MOUNTAINOUS LANDSCAPE

From the opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "If in the 1940s Navrátil preferred the gouache technique and chamber format, at the beginning of the 1950s he also created oil-painted shots of alpine mountains, valleys and lakes of medium, and exceptionally larger sizes. Navrátil found subjects both on graphic models and on on his frequent trips, especially to the Alps, he constantly changed and paraphrased them with such charm and an astonishing richness of invention and imagination that the viewer never gets tired of their similarity. The moody landscape compositions, both gouache and oil, won Navrátil universal popularity in his time, but also today they are a sought after and popular collector's item."
